Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PLK) has obtained a renewed safety authorisation allowing it to manage infrastructure designed for speeds of up to 250 km/h, raising the certified speed threshold on key corridors including the Central Railway Main Line (CMK).
For the first time, the authorisation explicitly covers infrastructure built for 250 km/h operation.
In practical terms, this creates the regulatory basis to increase maximum operating speeds on lines such as the CMK between Grodzisk Mazowiecki and Zawiercie, once ETCS Level 2 is fully deployed and infrastructure adaptation is completed. These works are currently targeted for 2027.
For operators and rolling stock owners, the decision defines 250 km/h as the approved operational benchmark for future services on upgraded sections of the Polish network. The authorisation is valid until 2 March 2031.
