Three Czech regions now see the operation of new Class 847 diesel multiple units, under business name RegioFox.
Central Bohemian region: 6 out of 38
Six RegioFox trains have been introduced to the rail network in Central Bohemia, serving routes from Rakovník to Beroun and Beroun to Prague via Rudná. These units, numbered 004, 005, 008, 018, 019, and 020, have transitioned from a trial phase to regular operation following approval of the new train type last month. By the end of 2026, a total of 38 RegioFox units will be deployed primarily in the western part of the region.
The RegioFox trains are part of a broader effort to improve accessibility and comfort in regional travel. These efforts are supported by the Central Bohemian Region’s agreement with České dráhy, which extends the current contract for regional rail services by five years. The region will also see the addition of 34 Regio-Shuttle RS1 units in the coming years, further upgrading the rail service.
Pardubice region: 7 out of 7
In the Pardubice Region, seven RegioFox units are now operational on the line between Pardubice and Havlíčkův Brod. The region aims to phase out older train models like the 810 and 814 series, moving them to less demanding routes until they can be fully replaced.
Plzeňský region: 6 out of 16
České dráhy has also introduced the first RegioFox trains into service in the Plzeň Region. These trains will operate on the Plzeň – Žihle route, with ten units expected to be in service by December.
The PESA-made two-car RegioFox units, which provide 115 seats and space for bicycles and prams, will expand to other lines within the region, such as Rokycany – Příkosice, and later on, routes between Plzeň and Bezdružice, Plzeň and Radnice, and Klatovy and Železná Ruda. Each train is designed to offer a comfortable and safe travel experience, equipped with European Train Control System (ETCS) technology.
ČD will deploy these trains in more regions in the near future, namely South Bohemia, Hradec Králové, and Vysočina.
By mid-2024, České dráhy had introduced 55 new trains and locomotives, including RegioPanter, RegioFox, and Vectron locomotives.
As the largest passenger rail operator in the Czech Republic, České dráhy runs approximately 2.5 million trains annually, covering over 116 million kilometers and transporting passengers a combined total of more than 8 billion kilometers each year. The company maintains a fleet of around 2,000 locomotives and over 1,600 passenger cars.
