The 238 km cross-border railway has advanced through 27 million cubic metres of earthworks and the construction of 80 major structures.

Hafeet Rail, a joint venture between Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment, has completed 40% of the rail connection between Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The project covers a 238 km corridor passing through Al Ain, Al Buraimi, Sohar, and Wadi Al Jizzi. Construction progress includes 100,000 cubic metres of concrete work and the installation of 900 concrete piles and 130 box culverts.

The engineering scope involves large-scale excavation and tunnel boring to navigate mountainous terrain and wadis. Integrated flood protection systems are being installed along the route to ensure operational stability. The project currently has 80 structures in various stages of construction, linking major ports and industrial hubs including the Port of Sohar.

The railway will utilize signaling and communication systems designed for interoperability between the Omani and UAE networks. These systems are specified to allow for reduced headways and increased automation for both freight and future passenger services. The project has recorded ten million man-hours without major injury during the construction phase.

Freight operations will focus on connecting regional logistics hubs to enhance cross-border trade. Once operational, the link will provide a rail alternative to road transport between the two nations, aligning with the Oman Vision 2040 and UAE national development targets. Delivery of the first services remains scheduled according to the original project timeline.
