The order introduces a uniform series of track machines designed for both turnout and plain line tamping and will replace multiple older units in DB Bahnbau’s fleet.

DB Bahnbau Gruppe has placed an order for 18 UnimatExpress 2X-4x4 Dynamic tamping machines from Plasser & Theurer.

The newly ordered machines feature a split tamping unit. One side is optimised for complex turnout geometry, while the other is geared toward efficient mainline operation. This setup allows for high-output work on both infrastructure types, including 2-sleeper tamping over extended sections of turnout.

Dynamic track stabilisation is integrated into the tamping machines. This eliminates the need for separate stabilising vehicles, shortening the work chain and allowing for quicker reopening of track sections.

The fleet is equipped with digital assistance and measurement systems developed by Plasser & Theurer. These include non-contact inertial and referenced geometry measuring units, providing data before and after tamping without the need for separate track access. Operator support systems offer real-time feedback and action recommendations based on AI analysis. Features like condition-based tamping aim to reduce variability in output and lower the need for operator experience.

All machines are fitted with ETCS-compatible onboard systems and are powered by HVO fuel, aligning with internal emissions reduction targets.

The 18 machines are part of a broader effort to reduce model diversity within DB Bahnbau Gruppe’s tamping fleet. By standardising equipment, the company expects gains in operational continuity, training efficiency, and parts logistics.
