DP World has announced the launch of a new mid-week rail service between the ports of Southampton and London Gateway, adding to Freightliner's existing weekend service. This additional connection aims to strengthen the use of rail for intermodal freight transport, offering a more sustainable option for moving goods between the two major ports.
The new service is expected to contribute to reducing road mileage by over one million miles annually, supporting efforts to shift more freight from road to rail. This modal shift is part of a broader initiative aimed at improving supply chain resilience in the UK while also reducing carbon emissions.
