VIKING-Rail, a Danish freight rail operator, has added two electric locomotives to its fleet as it prepares for future electrification in Jutland. The two Alstom Traxx locomotives, built in 2011 and leased from Beacon Rail, are a welcome addition to the company's operations, bringing a younger, more modern alternative to its current diesel-powered rolling stock.
The locomotives will initially be deployed on routes to Taulov, Vojens, and eastern Denmark. As the electrification of key rail corridors in Jutland, including those to Aarhus and Aalborg, progresses, the company aims to integrate the new units further into its operations.
VIKING-Rail continues to operate a mix of electric and diesel locomotives, and while the introduction of these newer electric models is a key step forward, the company has no plans to retire its well-maintained older Nohab diesel locomotives anytime soon.
With over 20 years of experience in the transport of goods and special cargo across Denmark, VIKING-Rail also operates a maintenance facility servicing a wide range of diesel and electric locomotives and rail wagons. The company, now under Danish ownership following a separation from CFL Cargo, has been expanding its workforce and capabilities as it continues to grow.
