The project will extend the length of the track to accommodate trains up to 608 meters long, improving the efficiency of the terminal.

Adif has made new investments in the Muriedas logistics terminal to improve freight transport. With an investment of almost 6 million euros, it will improve and extend the useful length of the tracks to accommodate trains of up to 608 meters at the terminal, which is located on the Palencia-Santander conventional network.

The Muriedas terminal, located in Camargo, has a yard with 12 sidings (secondary circulation tracks connected to the main track, used for crossing and parking trains) and 2 maneuvering tracks. To adapt the electrification to the new line, new foundations will be laid and new pillars will be installed to replace the funicular gantries with rigid gantries, thus providing two contact wires to the track bed.

The extension works will focus on the inner tracks, on 9 of the 12 sidings, at both ends, both on the Santander and Palencia sides, and will include work on the platform, track and electrification.

The work, which is part of the agreement signed by Adif, Puertos del Estado and the Santander Port Authority, will provide the logistics facility with the capacity to handle freight trains with a more competitive and effective length. This is in addition to the track doubling works between Torrelavega and Guarnizo, which will affect the terminal's traffic lanes.  This will boost rail freight on this line and traffic with the Port of Santander.
