The locomotive was converted by WLE as part of the European DAC4EU programme. WLE joined the project in 2025 and is testing Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC) in commercial freight operations in Germany.
The Hybrid-DAC enables operation between wagons fitted with conventional screw couplers and those equipped with digital automatic couplers. In addition to the mechanical connection, the system includes digital and electrical components, allowing power supply to wagons and supporting digital train functions.
WLE has so far equipped 13 freight wagons with DAC technology under the project. In the coming weeks, a fully digital freight train is scheduled to enter commercial service on the WLE network.
