The wagon is on display at InnoTrans 2024 in Berlin, located at rail 4/70.

At the InnoTrans exhibition, Tatravagónka introduced a new concept utilizing its intermodal Sgmmnnss 41’ wagon, equipped with the GRAINBOX hopper swap body designed for seasonal grain transport. The Grainbox container offers a 70m³ capacity and weighs 6.9 tonnes. Handling is facilitated by a crane, and its 11,455 mm x 600 mm roof can be opened from the ground, providing straightforward access for bulk loading operations.

The Grainbox is designed with two hoppers positioned beneath the wagon underframe, offering a discharge angle of 34 degrees. These hoppers allow for grain to be unloaded between the rails, with the rate of discharge controlled by a lever mechanism.

This container-based solution ensures compatibility with existing infrastructure used for transporting agricultural products, simplifying its integration. The Grainbox also addresses seasonal transport demands, with storage solutions enabling up to three containers to be stacked via intermediate pieces when not in use.

The Sgmmnnss 41’ wagon features an optimized underframe tailored for the Grainbox, which increases the overall versatility of the wagon. Although the combination of wagon and container results in a 21% lower efficiency in grain transport compared to standard 95m³ grain wagons, it compensates by offering greater flexibility. Outside the grain transport season, the wagon remains suitable for carrying sheet coils, slabs, and containers.

Tatravagónka’s exhibit also highlights telematics and sensor systems, allowing users to test the audiovisual setup that signals handbrake application. Additionally, the wagon is coated with Kansai Helios paints and equipped with measuring wheelsets from VÚKV, certified under EN ISO/IEC 17025.

Also to be seen at the fair by Tatravagónka: The first 6-axle intermodal wagon with integrated baskets in Europe.
