The updated rolling stock configuration reduces train length by approximately 3 metres per wagon while increasing the payload per unit.

Eiffage Rail is upgrading its high-output track renewal trains by replacing existing open box wagons with new-generation Eamnos units supplied by Ermewa. Each Eamnos wagon now supports up to 71 tonnes of cargo, compared to the previous 56 tonnes.

The revised setup is intended to optimise the operational footprint of Eiffage Rail’s track renewal fleet, particularly in constrained construction zones. The Eamnos type is compatible with existing loading equipment used during rail infrastructure renewal works.

Primarily used for transporting bulk materials such as scrap metal, aggregates, and other weather-resistant commodities, the wagons are also designed in accordance with European interoperability requirements. This includes compliance with TSI Wagon (STI WAG), TSI Noise (STI Bruit), and TEN GE standards.

The replacement is part of Eiffage Rail’s broader adjustment of its logistics processes for rapid track renewal activities across the French rail network. The shorter formation length, combined with increased payload, allows for modified train composition without requiring additional axle load or new traction units.
