PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe has launched modernization works on two sections of railway line no. 143 between Oleśnica and Kluczbork.
The project targets a 22 km stretch of the Wrocław–Kluczbork corridor and is expected to shorten passenger travel time by around 10 minutes. Speeds for passenger services will increase to up to 120 km/h and for freight trains to up to 80 km/h.
Two sections under reconstruction
Work is now underway on two track segments:
The scope includes replacing overhead catenary, upgrading rail traffic control systems, and installing new turnouts near Bierutów and Wołczyn stations.
Infrastructure improvements
The modernisation covers installation of new safety systems at selected rail-road crossings, replacement of crossing slabs and resurfacing of approach roads, and reconstruction of Voivodeship Road no. 451 near the line.
A total of 26 engineering structures will be rebuilt or refurbished, including 3 bridges, 4 viaducts (in Solniki Wielkie, Oleśnica, and Ligota Dolna), and 19 culverts.
Passenger infrastructure
The plan also includes new and improved passenger facilities. New platforms will replace the existing ones in Smardy, two platforms will be added in Solniki Wielkie, placed closer to residential areas. All platforms will be barrier-free and include lighting, seating, and passenger information systems.
Further works planned
PKP PLK is preparing a separate tender for a 3 km section including Wrocław Psie Pole station and the link to Wrocław Sołtysowice. This will support smoother operations between Wrocław, Oleśnica, and Trzebnica.
