A weather-related travel warning is in effect from Friday morning, September 13, until Sunday evening, September 15, 2024. ÖBB has advised passengers to defer non-essential trips during this period.
The Tauern route between Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein remains closed until at least Monday, September 16, due to snowfall that has caused trees to interfere with overhead lines. Emergency teams are working to clear approximately eight kilometers of track area. A rail replacement service is operating between Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein, while the section between Böckstein and Mallnitz remains open.
Night train services over the Tauern route and within inner-Alpine traffic have been suspended or are operating only in sections.
Additionally, a landslide between Aspang and Friedberg has disrupted train services, with rail replacement measures in place until at least Monday evening. Geologists are assessing the situation to provide a more accurate forecast.
Preventive traffic suspensions are also affecting routes in Lower and Upper Austria. In Lower Austria, services from Wiener Neustadt Hauptbahnhof to Puchberg am Schneeberg, Wöllersdorf to Gutenstein, Bad Fischau/Brunn to Gutenstein, Leobersdorf to Weisenbach-Neuhaus, and Wiener Neustadt Hbf to Friedberg are suspended from Saturday morning to Monday evening. In Upper Austria, rail replacement services are operating on the Almtalbahn, Mühlkreisbahn, and Donauuferbahn until mid-September.
ÖBB is monitoring over 5,500 kilometers of its network for potential additional disruptions. Freight transport is also being evaluated, with the Rail Cargo Group maintaining communication with its customers.
Passengers affected by the travel warning period may request refunds for national, international, and night train tickets purchased up to September 12, 2024. Refunds are valid until September 18, 2024. Due to increased demand, ÖBB advises passengers that customer service may experience longer waiting times.
