The introduction of electrified infrastructure enables electric locomotives to couple and uncouple from trains independently, without relying on diesel shunting locomotives

ORLEN Unipetrol has completed the electrification of a section of its rail network within the Litvínov production facility. The project, with a total cost of EUR 3.9 million, was partially funded by the European Union through the Cohesion Fund under the Transport 2021–2027 program, administered by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI).

The Litvínov rail yard serves as a key logistics hub for the transport of chemical raw materials, petrochemical products, fuels, and other materials within and beyond the facility. The project involved the installation of overhead traction equipment on 7.36 kilometers of track at the transfer yard, which connects the industrial site to the national railway network.

The electrification is expected to optimize operations by reducing waiting times and simplifying train movements within the facility.
