The Pomezia freight terminal has introduced two electric locomotives and two advanced cranes, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable freight transport and modal shift initiatives. This €3.4 million investment, co-financed by PNRR and PNC funds, represents a significant step towards reducing environmental impact and improving operational efficiency.
The all-electric Vaia Car locomotives, designed to operate on both road and rail, offer rapid manoeuvrability, flexibility and zero CO2 emissions. These are complemented by CVS Ferrari cranes, which can lift up to 45 tonnes and offer advanced technologies for handling containers and semi-trailers while minimizing environmental impact.
"The purchase of the new vehicles for the Pomezia terminal represents an important milestone in the industrial development of the logistics hub, which considers the renewal of the fleet as a strategic pillar to guarantee increasingly efficient and sustainable services at all stages of the supply chain," said Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Mercitalia Logistics.
These investments position the Pomezia terminal as one of Italy's leading intermodal freight transport hubs. By integrating innovative green technologies, the terminal will continue to improve its services. It will offer sustainable logistics solutions to its customers, while supporting Italy's broader environmental and transport goals.
