TX Logistik has introduced the first three of 40 Vectron locomotives from Siemens Mobility into active service. This rollout follows the company’s order, placed in May 2023, as part of an ongoing fleet renewal initiative aimed at intermodal and cross-border rail freight. The new Vectron units will operate primarily along key corridors including the Brenner and Switzerland routes, crucial for north-south freight traffic in Europe.
These routes, known for their heavy usage, demand high performance and system compatibility from locomotives. The Vectrons, equipped with various country packages, are designed to meet these challenges. TX Logistik has secured a mix of configurations for its fleet, with 20 locomotives capable of running in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and the Netherlands (DA-CH-I-NL), scheduled for delivery by early 2025. The remaining 20, set for use in Germany, Austria, and Italy (DAI), are expected by the end of 2025.
TX Logistik has placed a strong emphasis on expanding its operations in rail freight, positioning the Vectron locomotives as a step toward increasing both capacity and efficiency. The first units will begin operations on German, Austrian, and Dutch routes, with Swiss and Italian routes to follow, pending regulatory approvals.
The first three locomotives were handed over at an event in Braunschweig. One of the units was adorned with a special livery featuring the slogan "Start now (Nature). Driven by Green Passion," highlighting the company’s focus on promoting environmentally friendly transport solutions.
New short-distance block train service
In addition to the new locomotives, TX Logistik has commenced a new block train service covering a 213-kilometer route between Hamburg and Padborg, Denmark. This new service, operated for MSC Germany, further strengthens the company's portfolio of short-distance rail solutions.
