In a strategic move to strengthen its leadership team, VTG Group has announced significant personnel changes effective 1 January 2024.

The VTG Group has announced personnel changes as part of its strategic realignment. Thomas Jäger will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) with effect from 1 January 2024 and will be responsible for the operational business of the VTG Group. His responsibilities will include the management of VTG Rail Europe GmbH and VTG Rail Logistics GmbH, as well as the procurement of new assets and internal and external repair and maintenance capacities. In particular, Jäger will also play a key role in the development of Retrack, VTG's rail company, with a mandate to expand the existing Retrack network. With more than two decades of experience in the rail freight sector, Jäger most recently worked for DB Cargo.

Sven Wellbrock, a member of the executive board of VTG GmbH, will focus on the strategic development of VTG's wagon leasing, rail logistics, and tank container leasing businesses and will assume the role of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) with effect from 1 January 2024.

“By appointing a new COO who will report straight to VTG’s Executive Board, we are putting the right conditions in place to drive our ambitious growth in Europe’s rail freight sector forward more effectively and with greater agility. I am therefore delighted that we have been able to recruit Thomas Jäger, an experienced manager whose proven expertise in rail freight will be instrumental in dovetailing our fleet with the company’s procurement processes,” commented Wellbrock on the personnel changes.

In the coming months, there will be further personnel changes within the COO's area of responsibility. Thomas Jussen, Deputy Head of Production, will leave VTG on 31 October 2023. In the interim period until a permanent replacement is found, Hannes Kotratschek, Head of Production, will assume responsibility for this function.

In addition, Andreas Roj will join VTG as the new Head of Strategic Procurement with effect from 1 February 2024. Roj brings extensive international experience in strategic procurement and supply chain management with a focus on supplier development. He was previously Director of Global Purchasing at the LMT Group.
