The UTE consortium formed by Hitachi Rail and Sistem will deliver signalling and traffic management systems for the second, 70 km section of the Madrid–Extremadura High-Speed Line. The €126.5 million contract covers the Talayuela–Plasencia stretch of the future route.
The scope includes interlockings, train protection systems, fixed telecommunications, and ERTMS Level 2. The consortium will also deploy a Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) system to manage signalling and infrastructure elements remotely and in real time.
The contract provides for 48 months of maintenance once installation is completed. A central feature is the introduction of ERTMS Level 2, where Hitachi Rail technology will serve as the primary operational platform.
According to Carlos Mezquita, General Manager for Spain, Turkey and Greece, the project supports the continued expansion of the Spanish high-speed network and strengthens digitalisation across key corridors.
