PJM has carried out braking and acoustic tests for a new snow blower vehicle ordered by Bane NOR. The vehicle in question is the 80-tonne Schmidt Beilhack HB 1100S, developed by Aebi Schmidt for winter operations on the Norwegian rail network.
Braking performance was examined under varying weather conditions between autumn 2024 and April 2025. Test locations included Holmenstrand and the steep gradients of the Flåm Railway, with further test runs between Finse and Voss. The Flåm route features inclines of up to 55 ‰.
In addition to braking tests, PJM was also commissioned to perform acoustic measurements to meet health and safety requirements. These are scheduled for autumn 2025.
The HB 1100S is a project-specific snow blower from Aebi Schmidt and will be deployed for infrastructure operations in Norway.
PJM has previous experience with non-standard rolling stock, including special rail vehicles and construction machines. The company operates as an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited testing facility with its headquarters and production based in Graz, Austria. Its portfolio includes test and approval work for various operators in Europe and beyond, covering multiple vehicle categories from freight wagons to metro stock.
