The facility began operations on 15 January and supports locomotives deployed on freight corridors serving India’s north-eastern states.

Wabtec has started locomotive service operations at the Siliguri Maintenance Shed in West Bengal, expanding its freight services footprint in eastern India in cooperation with Indian Railways.

The Siliguri shed will provide maintenance support for up to 250 Indian Railways Evolution Series locomotives supplied by Wabtec. Services cover routine and preventive maintenance, technical supervision, materials and warehouse management, shed control, logistics and remote diagnostics.

The site operates under a service model in which Indian Railways provides the infrastructure and workforce, while Wabtec is responsible for technical oversight and performance management. According to the company, the model is intended to improve locomotive availability, reliability and fuel efficiency on strategically important freight routes.

The Siliguri operation adds to Wabtec’s existing locomotive maintenance facilities in Roza, Gandhidham and Gooty. Together, these sites support a fleet of around 1,000 Wabtec locomotives in service with Indian Railways across the country.

The locomotives maintained at Siliguri are primarily assigned to freight operations hauling commodities including food grains, fertilisers, cement and containers, serving corridors linking eastern India with the eight north-eastern states and onward connections toward South-East Asia.
