The incident caused significant damage to the overhead contact line system, requiring emergency intervention by infrastructure manager Bane NOR.

A fire aboard a Vy passenger train forced the closure of the Bergheim–Nesbyen section of Norway’s Bergen Line on 7 April 2026, with services resuming on the morning of 9 April following infrastructure repairs.

Smoke was reported at 16:30 in the rear carriage of Vy train 602 operating from Bergen to Oslo. The train was stopped at the former Bromma station, where the three rear carriages were uncoupled. Passengers were evacuated in a controlled manner by onboard staff, while emergency services responded to the scene. The fire subsequently spread to the detached carriages and was brought under control shortly after 18:00. Remaining passengers were transported onward by 19:30.

The blaze damaged approximately 150 metres of overhead contact wire, which had to be replaced before services could restart. One carriage sustained extensive damage and was removed from the track using excavators to allow access for repair works. Bane NOR mobilised emergency and technical teams to restore the line as quickly as possible.

The Accident Investigation Board Norway conducted on-site examinations on 8 April before the damaged rolling stock was cleared and infrastructure repairs commenced. Normal operations on the Bergen Line resumed on Thursday morning, 9 April.
