Detectives from the National Organised Crime Agency of the Police of the Czech Republic (NCOZ) conducted searches at several locations in Prague on Tuesday morning, including the headquarters of Správa železnic — the Czech owner and provider of national and regional railway infrastructure owned by the state. The information was first reported by Odkryto.cz.
According to the outlet, the investigation concerns railway construction contracts worth hundreds of millions of Czech crowns. The case reportedly includes projects such as the modernisation of the Pardubice railway hub and the development of new station infrastructure in Brno.
NCOZ spokesperson Jaroslav Ibehej confirmed that investigators were carrying out criminal-procedure actions but said all public communication is handled by the High Public Prosecutor’s Office in Prague.
Správa železnic spokesperson Nela Eberl Friebová stated that police had requested specific documents. “We can confirm only that police entered the building with a request to hand over materials. We are providing full cooperation,” she told the server.
The investigation also concerns the Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic (ŘSD). Its spokesperson Jan Rýdl said the directorate had been asked to cooperate and was doing so, without providing further details.
One of the examined projects, the reconstruction of the Pardubice railway hub, cost nearly €280 million (excl. VAT). The four-year project, completed in May last year, included platform upgrades, a new fifth platform, updated signalling, traction infrastructure and several rebuilt bridges, along with a new station stop and pedestrian bridge.
