Long ICE 4 trains with 830 seats continue to connect the two cities directly and without changes every hour. During the renovation work, additional ICE connections are also benefiting Lüneburg, Uelzen, Salzwedel and Stendal.
"The diversion plan, which has already proven itself during previous construction work, is working well," said Stefanie Berk, DB Fernverkehr's Member of the Management Board for Marketing and Sales.
As was expected by DB, it has been reported that there have been no capacity problems. There are currently 65 daily connections, 36 of which are direct. The direct train journey from city centre to city centre is still faster than travelling by car, taking around two and a half hours. Google Maps estimates the car journey to take over three hours.
Renovation work on the 270-kilometre railway line between Hamburg and Berlin began on Friday 1 August. Replacement bus services have been operating with 170 buses on 28 routes.
