The agreement will develop an all-rail corridor using a steel-wheel interchange to replace the current road segment between Memphis and Nashville.

CN and CSX have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch a new intermodal rail service connecting Canada’s West Coast to Nashville, Tennessee, via Memphis.

The service targets international container flows entering North America through CN-served West Coast ports and is intended to provide a direct rail link into the Nashville area. The companies aim to reduce transit times, improve schedule reliability, and eliminate the need for trucking between interchange points.

This marks a further expansion of CN and CSX’s interline cooperation, which previously included connections to the East Coast ports of New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, dating back to 2019. The new corridor adds to both operators’ cross-border intermodal offerings.

Following the announcement of Norfolk Southern’s merge with Union Pacific, CSX increased its bonds with other Class I railroads. The recent agreement with CN follows a previous collaboration announcement with BNSF.
