Intermodal Lime Transport to Slovakia with InterCal and Rail Cargo Austria

In a new collaboration with InterCal from Peggau and Rail Cargo Austria, Innofreight has introduced a transport service dedicated to delivering quicklime to Košice, Slovakia. The service ensures the annual shipment of 20,000 tonnes of quicklime using a streamlined intermodal approach that combines rail and road transport.

The quicklime is loaded through four roof hatches on the truck and unloaded directly at the rail track using specially designed side flaps. This operational setup improves handling efficiency and minimizes transshipment times.

The service relies on Innofreight’s 22.5 ft MonTainer, a modular container solution that protects the cargo from moisture and facilitates seamless loading and unloading processes. As part of Innofreight’s broader modular system, the MonTainer can be combined with other equipment such as CityLogistics containers for bulk materials and the CemTainer for cement transport. This modular flexibility supports cargo shifts from road to rail, enhancing the sustainability of supply chains in the construction materials sector.

Joint railway undertaking with CityRail

Further expanding its rail logistics capabilities, Innofreight has formalized a joint railway undertaking with CityRail, a Czech rail company. The two firms, which have cooperated since 2021, will now operate together under the Innofreight group structure, with initial services focused on the Czech market.

The integration of CityRail into the Innofreight group is aimed at reinforcing the company’s rail-based service offering. With CityRail’s operational expertise and regional coverage, Innofreight can provide more comprehensive, end-to-end transport solutions to its customers.

Innofreight currently handles over 40 million tonnes of goods annually and operates a wide portfolio of modular container systems. These solutions are used across diverse industries for transporting commodities such as biomass, wood, direct reduced iron (DRI), hydrogen, cement, finished products, lime, gypsum, and fertilizers.
