The new logistics model involves direct loading of prefabricated concrete products onto freight trains at Baraclit’s production site in Tuscany.

Polo Logistica FS, along with Baraclit and Murano, launched an intermodal transport service designed specifically for prefabricated concrete products, aiming to reduce logistics-related road traffic and CO₂ emissions.

Trasporto Ferroviario Toscano (TFT) provides local rail transport, delivering goods to Marcianise Terminal near Caserta using Mercitalia Rail services. At Marcianise, Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal is responsible for transshipment from rail wagons onto trucks, which then deliver the products directly to construction sites.

According to FS Logistics Hub estimates, this combined rail-road transport model decreases road freight distances, reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 195 tons compared to road-only transportation. Around 195 tons of carbon dioxide emissions are expected to be saved per year, corresponding to fewer trucks on highways.

This logistics operation also coincides with the 80th anniversary of Murano, a producer of dried fruit under the Fatina brand. Murano is involved as a partner in this intermodal logistics arrangement.

The newly introduced service builds upon FS Logistics Hub’s prior intermodal project conducted with Baraclit and Gruppo Grendi, which integrated rail, sea, and road transportation. The latest model aligns with the companies' stated environmental, social, and governance (ESG) targets, particularly regarding carbon emission reductions in supply-chain processes.

Mercitalia Logistics, part of FS Group, emphasizes integrated transport solutions with rail as the primary mode over long distances.
