Once fully operational, Umeå will be equipped with three strategically located intermodal terminals, designed to serve the growing demands of regional businesses and streamline goods transport across various sectors.

Freight volumes at Umeå Kombiterminal have risen significantly in the first half of 2024, with intermodal volumes up by 42% compared to the same period last year. This growth aligns with Umeå’s broader development as a key logistics center in northern Sweden, driven by its intermodal transport capabilities.

The port of Umeå has also seen a 9% increase in cargo volume during the same period, reflecting growth across multiple product segments, particularly in forest products. This trend underscores the rising demand for efficient, environmentally conscious transportation solutions across both domestic and international markets.

Several recent infrastructure projects, including expansions at Umeå port and investments in the city's railway terminals, support the municipality’s long-term objectives of promoting rail and sea transport while reducing emissions. The expansion of Umeå’s logistics infrastructure is expected to meet future volume forecasts, with the completion of a new railway terminal connected to the Norrbotnia line further improving the region’s transport network.
