The agreement was formalized during a meeting in Sofia, where representatives from the Georgian Railways, the Georgian shipping company "Sea Line E60," and the Bulgarian Railways gathered to finalize the terms.
The ferry service, which had been inactive due to the expiration of a previous agreement, will resume with the Georgian-flagged ferry "Aya" facilitating the transport of cargo between Georgia and Bulgaria's port of Varna. Preparatory efforts to restart this service have been ongoing since the beginning of the year.
The reestablishment of this ferry route is expected to play a crucial role in improving the efficiency of the middle corridor route, which is a key component of the broader Trans-Caspian international transport network. The service will enable regular transportation of goods via specially equipped railway ferries, providing an alternative route for cargo destined for Europe.
Both Georgian and Bulgarian railways anticipate that the resumption of this service will help meet the growing demand for shipments along this route, contributing to a more integrated transport system across the region.
