Heavy Haul Rail Limited has launched as a standalone rail freight company in the UK following the sale of Freightliner UK’s Intermodal Logistics business. The separation leaves Heavy Haul Rail operating independently and focused on bulk freight services, the company said on 29 January.
The operator moves around 17m tonnes of freight per year for customers in the industrial, energy and construction sectors. Its activities also include rail infrastructure renewal and maintenance support, as well as services for passenger train operators and rolling stock companies, including driver supply and route conducting.
Heavy Haul Rail operates a fleet of 95 locomotives and more than 1,000 wagons. The business runs around 250 trains per week, covering approximately three million train miles annually, and serves more than 100 customer locations across the UK.
The company employs around 950 staff. Its shareholders remain unchanged and also own rail freight operators in Poland, Germany and the Netherlands.
The Freightliner brand and the Intermodal Logistics business have been acquired by CMA CGM.
