The announcement comes amid ongoing maintenance and service expansion.

SJ has reported an operating profit of EUR 19.5 million for the second quarter, up from EUR 11.4 million in the same period last year. The increase in profit is attributed to new and existing traffic agreements as well as a rise in ticket revenue.

The company has been actively engaged in maintenance work on its trains to address damage caused by the past severe winter. While more trains have gradually been returned to service, overall supply has been slightly lower compared to the previous year. This reduction in supply has resulted in a 2% decrease in travel compared to the same period last year, though the occupancy rate has remained consistent.

Efforts are underway to ensure better preparedness for the upcoming winter, in line with SJ's 10-point program.

A new customer service and booking platform was launched during the quarter, following several years of development. This platform is expected to offer improved capabilities compared to the old system. The launch proceeded as planned, according to SJ's president and CEO, Monica Lingegård.

Since March 3, SJ has been responsible for the operation and maintenance of commuter train traffic in Stockholm County. An initial evaluation by Greater Stockholm's Lokaltrafik has indicated an improvement in reliability since SJ took over this responsibility.

In addition, the Swedish Transport Administration has tasked SJ with operating the Stockholm–Luleå/Narvik night train service starting from December 15, 2024. This agreement is an emergency contract valid for one year, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
