České dráhy will repair the Pendolino unit damaged in the 2022 Bohumín collision, with the work awarded to Czech company ČMŽO elektrotechnika.

České dráhy (ČD), the Czech national railway carrier, has decided to repair the Pendolino unit damaged in the 2022 collision in Bohumín, returning the train to service after a major restoration.

The work will be carried out by ČMŽO elektrotechnika, a Czech company based in Přerov. The contract covers the repair of two damaged cars from unit 680.006: the front Class 681 car with a second-class quiet compartment and an intermediate Class 081 car with a first-class section.

The rest of the unit remained operational and has been used to reduce downtime for other Pendolino sets during planned higher-level maintenance.

The repair contract is worth CZK 80.5 million (approximately €3.3 million) and the work is expected to take up to two years. ČMŽO elektrotechnika was the only bidder in the public tender launched in autumn 2025.

Once repaired, unit 680.006 will return to the Pendolino fleet and is expected to be deployed mainly on its core route between Prague, Ostrava and Bohumín.

ČD’s Pendolinos are also currently used on services to Košice, Karlovy Vary and České Budějovice. They operate some of the fastest trains in the Czech Republic, including services running at 200 km/h on the Prague–České Budějovice line.
