The MittelrheinBahn fleet renewal has been completed, bringing 17 Siemens Desiro ML trains up to a modern standard for passengers travelling between Cologne, Koblenz and Mainz.
The project was carried out by Alpha Trains, fleet owner of the vehicles, together with Trans Regio, Siemens Mobility and the regional transport authorities SPNV-Nord, ZÖPNV-Süd and go.Rheinland.
The final modernised railcar was presented at the Siemens Mobility test centre in Wegberg-Wildenrath, officially closing a refurbishment programme designed to extend the life of trains that have been in service on the route since 2008.
The modernisation was backed by a €3 million investment from the public transport authorities, with Alpha Trains also contributing a substantial multi-million-euro amount.
