The unveiling took place at Vossloh Rolling Stock’s facility in Kiel-Suchsdorf, where representatives from DB Cargo and parent company CRRC ZELC attended the presentation.
The locomotive belongs to the Modula BDD variant, which combines two diesel engines with a battery system. It is designed for both shunting and mainline operations and can operate emission-free in battery mode. The diesel engines meet Stage V standards and are compatible with alternative fuels, including HVO diesel.
The modular platform architecture allows the integration of multiple traction systems, including overhead line supply, across the same locomotive design. The full platform is aimed at enabling operators to adapt configurations based on route and operational requirements.
The first locomotive marks the start of the production rollout following DB Cargo’s earlier fixed order of 50 locomotives from the Modula series. Entry into service is scheduled from mid-2027.
