The first Talgo 230 trainset, part of Deutsche Bahn's future ICE L fleet, has received formal acceptance from the German operator.
The initial batch includes 23 trainsets, ordered following a competitive procurement process. Three more units are expected to undergo the same acceptance procedure in the coming weeks. The ICE L fleet is designed for long-distance services and features low-floor access throughout the entire train to meet Germany’s accessibility standards.
Approval from the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) and Germany's Federal Railway Authority (EBA) was granted one month prior to acceptance. Work is ongoing to secure certification for operation in Austria, the Netherlands, and Basel in Switzerland. Certification processes are also underway for Talgo-built BR 105 locomotives and driving cars.
The ICE L trains will be officially presented by DB in Berlin on 17 October 2025. Based on the Talgo 230 platform, these trains will be used on long-distance routes across Germany and beyond. Talgo is also supplying similar rolling stock to DSB in Denmark and has an ongoing order with FlixTrain, which includes 65 units, 30 of which have already been confirmed.
The Talgo 230 series is being developed and produced entirely by Talgo, with operations in multiple countries including Germany, Denmark, and Spain.
