DCRail, a provider of bulk freight services, has entered into a new three-year locomotive servicing contract with Leicester-based UKRL.

With its fleet of Class 60 heavy freight locomotives, DCRail serves prominent suppliers and users of construction and industrial minerals. This new agreement builds on a partnership established in April 2022 and involves UKRL handling all servicing of the Class 60 locomotives. Maintenance activities will be carried out at UKRL's Leicester depot, where various rail vehicles receive maintenance, overnight servicing, train care, and fuelling.

The collaboration between DCRail and UKRL intends to maximize locomotive availability, achieving regular 'B' exams in under seven days and boosting fleet availability to over 90%. These efficiencies enable DCRail to offer more reliable supply chain solutions, contributing to reduced carbon emissions and supporting environmental goals.

Fleet improvements under this partnership have included upgrades such as LED lighting and electronic governors, facilitated by the engineering teams at both companies.

UKRL has evolved from a locomotive leasing company into a maintenance provider to better meet the needs of its expanding customer base. It operates from sites in Leicester and Loughborough.

DCRail specializes in transporting construction materials by rail across the UK and is part of the London-based Cappagh Group, which has an annual turnover exceeding EUR 238 million.
