The agreement for northern Germany runs until 2033.

From June 2026, metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH will continue to operate services on two key regional lines in northern Germany. The Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen (LNVG) has awarded the contract for Lot 1 of the Hanse network to the NETINERA-owned operator.

Lot 1 includes operations on the following routes:

  • RE3 / RB31: Hannover – Uelzen – Lüneburg – Hamburg
  • RE4 / RB41: Hamburg – Buchholz – Bremen

The awarded network segment accounts for approximately 6.5 million train-kilometres annually.

The contract continues metronom’s role on these lines, where its yellow-blue fleet has been a regular feature. According to the terms of the tender, each bidder was eligible to win only one of the two lots of the Hanse network.

Metronom is part of the NETINERA Group, which operates multiple regional railway brands across Germany. NETINERA itself is owned by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS Group), headquartered in Italy.
