The traffic supports the supply of construction materials into London and the south-east of England.

DB Cargo UK has extended its contract with Day Group Ltd by five years, securing rail freight services for aggregates and construction waste flows until 2031. Day Group is a UK construction materials and recycling company supplying aggregates and handling waste materials for the building sector, with rail-connected sites in southern England and Greater London.

The renewed agreement covers the transport of marine aggregates from Cliffe Brett Marine in Kent and Newhaven Marine in East Sussex to Day Group sites including Tolworth, Crawley, Purley and Stewart’s Lane.

DB Cargo UK will also continue moving construction waste from Stewart’s Lane to terminals at Tinsley in South Yorkshire and Stewartby in Bedfordshire. The operator’s role includes handling and unloading services at both terminals, not only line-haul rail transport.

The contract keeps rail in use for two linked flows: inbound aggregates for construction and outbound waste materials from urban building activity. For DB Cargo UK, the extension retains traffic in the construction and recycling segment of the British rail freight market.
