Growing security risks in the Middle East are beginning to affect global logistics flows, particularly international maritime transport.
According to ÖBB Rail Cargo Group, several shipping lines have introduced restrictions on cargo bound for countries considered higher-risk destinations. The measures affect shipments routed via southern European ports, including Trieste, Koper and Rijeka.
In response, RCG is asking customers to verify in advance whether export cargo to affected destinations will be accepted by the respective shipping line and whether onward transport by sea is secured.
The aim is to avoid sending consignments into the transport chain unless final acceptance and shipment can be confirmed. For European freight operators, the development is another reminder of how quickly geopolitical instability can spill over into intermodal and maritime supply chains.
