EP Logistics International (EPLI) has introduced Central European Rail Express (CEREx), a cross-border rail freight service that will link Germany and Hungary via the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Dedicated rail freight corridor
CEREx is designed as a scheduled rail corridor that will provide consistent and regular rail connections between key logistics hubs in Central Europe. The service will operate on dedicated train paths along the entire route, including border crossings. This approach is intended to offer a stable option in comparison to current combinations of services provided by different railway undertakings and road transport.
The route is planned to maintain fixed timetables and secured rail capacity to support reliable cargo movements across Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.
Planned coverage and operations
According to EP Logistics International, CEREx will support primary freight flows between Eastern, Central, and Western Europe. The corridor will connect destinations in Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
The trains will operate on reserved tracks to avoid capacity bottlenecks and border crossing delays, which often affect international rail freight. This system is expected to improve predictability for transport planning.
The project team is currently finalizing the detailed operating schedules and commercial offers tailored for key industrial sectors. A dedicated website with service updates is expected to launch before the start of operations.
