Organized transport of new rolling stock required bogie changes due to different gauge width.

LTG Cargo Polska coordinated the transport of a batch of broad-gauge open high-wall wagons from Ukraine to Lithuania through Poland. The gondolas were manufactured by TAS Dniprovagonmash for use in transporting bulk materials such as crushed stone.

A total of 200 open top wagons were acquired by LTG Cargo, with 40 already delivered to Kaunas. The wagons are designed specifically for use on the 1520 mm gauge used in Lithuania, necessitating multiple bogie changes due to the differing rail gauges along the route. The first bogie exchange was conducted in Poland when transferring the rolling stock from Ukraine’s broad gauge to the European 1435 mm gauge. The second exchange took place at Šeštokai, upon entry into Lithuania.

The Ukrainian manufacturer oversaw delivery, selecting LTG Cargo Polska for comprehensive transit services including the wagon replacement process. Due to the non-standard nature of the cargo, specific arrangements were required with the Polish infrastructure manager to secure permits and meet the technical conditions for the transit operation.

LTG Cargo Polska intends to organize the movement of another 100 gondolas of the same type. The current consignment is projected to enable the transport of up to 700,000 tonnes of crushed stone per year, supporting construction activities including road works and railway infrastructure projects.

The Polish subsidiary of LTG Cargo began operations in 2020. In 2024, it recorded a 36% year-on-year increase in train movements, with 2,329 freight trains handled compared to 1,715 the previous year. The company held a 4.5% share in Poland’s intermodal transport market.

LTG Cargo, the parent company, operates across Lithuania and internationally through its subsidiaries in Poland and Ukraine. Its services cover rail freight, cargo handling, forwarding, and rolling stock maintenance.
