From mid-December 2024, freight operators using the international section of the high-speed line between Figueres (Spain) and Perpignan (France) experience a 90% reduction in track access fees.
The reduced fees are part of an agreement between Spain and France to maintain and operate the Figueres-Perpignan line. This measure was formalized through an addendum to the existing agreement, signed by representatives from the Ministries of Transport of both countries. The goal is to strengthen the competitiveness of rail freight in the region, supporting efforts to shift cargo from road to rail.
Funding commitments for line operation
The addendum also includes financial provisions to ensure the stability of Línea Figueras Perpignan SA, the binational company responsible for the line’s operation and maintenance. Spain and France will contribute an additional €10 million to the company between 2024 and 2026. The organization is equally owned by the national infrastructure managers of the two countries, ADIF and SNCF Réseau.
This initiative aligns with broader European and national strategies for sustainable and efficient mobility. The high-speed line remains a key connection for both passenger and freight traffic between Spain and France.
Operators and stakeholders are encouraged to assess the potential advantages of the adjusted fees, which are now in effect.
