CargoBeamer has announced the addition of non-hazardous waste transport to its range of services. The company now offers booking for waste shipments on two key routes: Kaldenkirchen to Domodossola and Domodossola to Bari. The move signifies CargoBeamer's commitment to providing flexible rail solutions for various types of cargo.
CargoBeamer frequently loads a diverse selection of trailers on its trains, including:
- Non-craneable trailers
- Craneable trailers
- Swap bodies
- Refrigerated (frigo) trailers
- Silo and tank trailers
- Car transport trailers
In addition to these, the service accommodates 25 to 40-foot containers, glass trailers, agricultural machinery, dangerous goods, and now, waste transport. This broad capability underscores CargoBeamer's approach to meeting the varied needs of the logistics industry.
Transportation of waste by rail is gaining significance, as many Italian municipalities send their waste across the Alps to Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and as far as the Netherlands and Sweden for incineration. For example, Rome sends trash to Amsterdam, Naples to Hamburg, region of Campania to Bremerhaven or Dusseldorf. While Italy suffers from lack of incineration plants, German waste-to-energy plants are underutilized, opening transportation opportunities for unit trains, as well as semitrailers or swap bodies and containers with waste to be added to intermodal trains – such as the ones of CargoBeamer.
