In this case, it is the first FMCG electric train service in Turkey.

Arkas Rail has initiated a new service in Turkey, utilizing electric trains to transport goods for the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. In collaboration with PepsiCo Turkey, Arkas Rail is now moving food products between the Tarsus and Suadiye factories, marking the first time electric trains have been used for food transportation in the Turkish FMCG industry.

This service operates over a round-trip route exceeding 1,600 kilometers, offering a substantial reduction in carbon emissions - 83 percent lower than traditional road transport methods. This shift underscores the potential environmental benefits of moving freight transport from roads to electric trains, which have previously been limited to passenger and general cargo services.

Arkas Rail's involvement in this initiative reflects its commitment to sustainable transportation solutions. The company is expanding its rail services, focusing on the role of electric locomotives in minimizing the carbon footprint of logistics operations. The partnership with PepsiCo highlights the growing interest in using electric trains for a wider range of goods, setting a potential trend for other industries to follow.

The initial shipments have proven the operational viability and environmental benefits of using electric trains for food transport. As Arkas Rail continues to develop this service, the company aims to enhance sustainability in the logistics and rail sectors while improving the efficiency of rail transport for FMCG products.

This project is part of Arkas Rail’s broader strategy to position rail as a sustainable and efficient alternative to road transport in Turkey, especially for long-haul logistics. The collaboration with PepsiCo could pave the way for a broader adoption of electric trains in freight transport, signaling a shift in the logistics industry towards greener solutions.
