Northrail Fahrzeugverwaltung has taken over ownership-related responsibilities and ECM functions I and II for the West Network in northern Germany.
The West Network covers 237 km and includes routes from Hamburg via Itzehoe, Heide and Husum to Westerland on the island of Sylt. Northrail had already been acting as asset manager for the network since 2014.
The fleet deployed on the network comprises 15 Alstom TRAXX DEME locomotives, 90 Alstom passenger coaches configured in a married-pair concept, and three Alstom Coradia LINT 54 DMUs. In total, the rolling stock provides 7,794 passenger seats.
As part of the transition, Northrail’s vehicle management organisation is responsible for ownership functions, maintenance control and the further development of the maintenance system. The 90 passenger coaches are currently undergoing a modernisation programme.
Operations on the West Network continue to be carried out by DB Regio Marschbahn, with Northrail building on its existing cooperation with the operator under the expanded ECM role.
