The deal expands DPB’s traction capacity and adds dual-mode capability to its freight operations.

Austrian operator DPB Rail Infra Service has signed a full-service leasing agreement with European Loc Pool for two EuroDual hybrid locomotives.

The locomotives, which offer both electric and diesel operation, are scheduled to enter service in mid-2026. They will be deployed across national and international routes. According to DPB, the decision to lease the EuroDuals was based on the units' dual-mode flexibility and high tractive performance, which allows access to non-electrified sections and heavier trains on steep gradients.

The EuroDual offers a maximum of 2.8 MW diesel and 9 MW electric output, with a tractive effort of up to 500 kN. According to specifications from ELP, the units are equipped with ETCS Baseline 3 and are compatible with remote control and last-mile shunting.

DPB, based in Frauental, Styria, is part of the DPB Group and operates its own fleet of multi-system locomotives. Its services include freight haulage, shunting, wagon inspection, siding operations, and railway staff provision. The company is also active in signalling, safety technology and training.

The EuroDual locomotives will join other hybrid types in ELP’s leasing pool, which also includes the newer Euro9000 models.

The Euro9000, operational since 2023, offers 1.9 MW diesel and 9 MW electric output and operates across Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, and Switzerland.
