The delivery is part of KTZ’s plan to fully replace its passenger cars fleet by 2030.

Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) is progressing with the planned renewal of its passenger car fleet, targeting full replacement by 2030. The current rolling stock consists of 2,167 units, which includes 732 Talgo-type cars, 1,321 standard cars, and 114 railcar units.

New cars from stadler and local manufacturers

As part of the fleet renewal program, KTZ will receive 557 passenger cars from Stadler. The delivery of the first 51 cars is expected by the end of this year.

In parallel, KTZ is deploying cars from domestic production. In 2025, 107 new cars manufactured at the Petropavlovsk plant will be introduced into service. Two electric trains consisting of 18 cars have already been put into operation on the Astana–Borovoye Resort and Astana–Karaganda routes. Another electric train is scheduled for delivery shortly.

In addition to these steps, KTZ plans to conclude a contract with a domestic producer for another 350 cars, with deliveries planned until 2027.

Fleet overview

The existing KTZ passenger car fleet remains diversified, with Talgo cars, standard coaches, and self-propelled railcars in operation. The company’s ongoing vehicle renewal involves a combination of imported Stadler cars and units produced locally. The investment plan covers a progressive timeline towards 2030. The company’s goal is to replace its current assets through combined international procurement and domestic manufacturing capacity.
