The project covers the 167 km section between Khon Kaen and Nong Khai and includes upgrades at 11 stations.

Progress Rail has signed a contract to supply signalling and telecommunications systems for the second phase of Thailand’s double-track railway expansion. The contract was awarded by the Ch. Thawee–AS Construction Joint Venture (CH-AS JV), the main contractor for the scheme.

The company’s delivery scope includes design, installation, testing, and commissioning of signalling infrastructure. This comprises a Traffic Management System, Computer-Based Interlocking, and both onboard and wayside applications of ETCS Level 1.

This is the first time Progress Rail will supply wayside ETCS equipment in Thailand. The company is expanding its local presence in Bangkok to manage project execution.

The Khon Kaen–Nong Khai section is part of a wider programme led by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to double-track key intercity routes. The project supports efforts to improve national rail connectivity, reduce transport costs, and increase energy efficiency through modal shift.
