The project represents the largest biomass-based rail logistics operation currently underway in the Czech Republic.

Innofreight will manage more than 400,000 tonnes of biomass per year for Czech energy company ŠKO-ENERGO in Mladá Boleslav.

ŠKO-ENERGO, which supplies energy to Škoda Auto and district heating to the city of Mladá Boleslav, has been restructuring its generation mix since 2024. The company is investing around EUR 170m in a three-year programme that replaces coal with wood-based biomass.

The logistics chain involves several Innofreight group companies. inno4wood and InnoSped organise biomass sourcing and transport coordination across Eastern Europe. Innofreight provides the WoodTainer container system and the stationary unloading technology installed at the plant. The system handles up to 1,200 m³ per hour, equivalent to roughly 30 containers.

Rail traction falls under CityRail, the Czech operator integrated into the Innofreight group in mid-2025 following an earlier shareholding. With sourcing, equipment, unloading and traction concentrated within the group, Innofreight acts as logistics provider and rail operator for the Mladá Boleslav biomass flows.
