CargoNet has transported military equipment and personnel between Østerdalen and Åndalsnes in Norway as part of preparations for the Cold Response exercise in Northern Norway.
The operation involved dedicated train services linking inland military facilities in Østerdalen with the port area at Åndalsnes. According to CargoNet, the assignment required coordination beyond standard freight operations due to the nature of the cargo and operational requirements. CargoNet used CZ LOKO EffiShunter 1000 locomotives from Trainpoint for the move.
The transports formed part of broader logistical preparations for Cold Response, a recurring military exercise conducted in Northern Norway. CargoNet stated that the operation tested internal systems, inter-agency coordination and operational competence.
The experience contributes to the company’s activities during Norway’s Total Defence Year 2026, which focuses on cooperation between civilian and military sectors in crisis and defence scenarios.
