Both companies have received authorisation to operate rail services in Austria, expanding their cross-border activities in Central Europe and along the North Adriatic corridor.

Medway, part of the MSC Group, has launched a new rail freight service linking Linz and Wels with the port of Trieste. The service runs three times per week and is operated jointly by Medway Austria and Medway Italia. It connects Austrian industrial areas with Friuli Venezia Giulia and is integrated into the Medlog intermodal network.

The trains are intended to carry cargo including wood, paper, pulp, automotive goods and retail products. Connections between Austria and Trieste already exist, but the new service is operated under Medway’s own traction.

Medway has also started a new rail service in France, further extending its operating area.

RTC with authorization in Germany too

Rail Traction Company (RTC) has obtained an extension of its Single Safety Certificate, allowing cross-border operations in Austria and Germany. The approval follows the acquisition of multi-country certified locomotives and the qualification of drivers for Austrian routes. The authorisation enables RTC to operate beyond Italy on international corridors, also preparing for operations through the new Brenner Base Tunnel, currently under construction.
