A new international rail freight service connecting Guoyuan Port (Chongqing, China) with Hanoi (Vietnam) has officially started operations.

The cross-border rail connection is designed to support containerised cargo transport and reduce transit time for goods moving between the two countries. The new service operates under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and provides a direct link between China’s inland river port at Guoyuan and the Vietnamese capital.

By shifting container traffic from road to rail, the route aims to streamline customs procedures and reduce handling at borders. The specific technical setup and rail gauge change points—if any—have not been disclosed.

Guoyuan Port is a multimodal hub in Chongqing that connects river, rail, and road logistics. With the new international train to Hanoi, it extends its reach toward the ASEAN region through land transport corridors. The launch supports export and import activities between China and Vietnam, particularly in industrial, consumer goods, and manufacturing supply chains.

The corridor is promoted as part of broader infrastructure and trade coordination in the China–Indochina Peninsula economic zone.
